Did You Know? The LAGSL 2007 14U All Star team advanced through post season District, State, and Regional tournament rounds to represent Southern California ASA Section at the national Tournament. They took third place overall in the National tournament held in Sacramento, CA in August 2007. On average it takes 22.75 hours each week to maintain and prepare our LAGSL fields at Rossmoor Park for season play. LAGSL 2008 Opening Day is Saturday Feb 21s! Friends on a softball team become friends for life! There are over 690,000 ASA softball players in the United States in 2007. ASA has a new national registration standard for 2008 There are 7 ASA regions in California LAGSL is in the Southern Section We are in the central Region of the Southern Section LAGSL board members addended the all day ASA Regional Conference on Sunday, November 18, 2007. Over 500 representatives attended from almost 100 Southern California youth softball leagues All ASA teams nationwide keep track of players so they abide by ASA rules and play on one team at a time. All ASA players and coaches are registered through LAGSL on the ASA national registry. All ASA coaches, assistant coaches and dugout personnel have passed a background check by Opening Day. This is an ASA requirement. There are 22 positions on the LAGSL board of directors - 13 have served for over one year - 7 for more then 2 years and 4 for more then 3 years. Board of director elections will be held in May, 2008 Our softball league was established in 1974 About 25% or current player parents have palyed in our softball league as kids! Softball players develop focus and become even better students! Former 12 year LAGSL coach and former league president is the JV softball coach at Los Alamitos High School for the 2007-08 season. Prior to spring 2007 season, 62% of LAGSL registrations were received in the final 2 days of the registration period. Late registration requests were unfortunately placed on waiting lists because division teams were filled. Please register early. ASA represntatives perform audit visits all LAGSL fields and venues on a frequent basis. Let's all make certain they catch the awesome softball play and positive attitudes in our dugouts and cheering section! Only coaches and other background checked personnel are permitted in the dugout or on the field. When LAGSL coaches arrive at the practice or game venue their number one responsability is to set to mood for a successful softball experience. ...Parents and Players have the same responsability. LAGSL contracts with the a professional umpire service in the 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions. LAGSL All Star consideration begins LAGSL coaches and assistant coaches are strongly encouraged to attend the all day ASA coaches ACE certification seminar. Want to be considered as an All Star coach? LAGSL is an ASA league and all star coaches must be ACE certified starting in 2008. Your LAGSL registration fees and fundraiser monies supplement the cost of our players' pre-season professional softball clinic for the low player price of $5! The LAGSL logo merchandise is an excellent way to show everyone that you belong to your league. Visit the snack shack to purchase sweatshirts, shirts, practice pants and other cool stuff. LAGSL is an ASA member league as a "B League" ASA classifies travel teams as members of the "A" league, competative Recreation Leagues above x player membership are "B" leagues and smaller Recreation leagues that are less competative are "C" leagues. Players Play the game, Coaches teach the rules and how to play LAGSL has professional photographers visiting our field to take action shots of our teams. Be sure to support them and buy some amazing photo memories of your special player! There are lots and lots of prize give aways at LAGSL Opening Day Ceremony. All players eventually sit out an inning and cheer from the bench. This is one of the best places to see and learn more softball technique. Player Evaluation Day is Saturday January 19, 2008 at Rossmoor Park What to expect on Player Evaluation Day: Players in most divisions will field gound balls and fly balls, hit about 4 pitches and run bases. If a player is interested in pitching during the spring season they will also be required to throw pitches on Evaluation Day. The head umpire behind home plate is in charge of the game. The coach from each team is charge of their sidelines, both players and parents. LAGSL has a new uniform style for the spring 2008 season. As adults we model behavior for our children 100% of the time! Don't run with scissors, you could trip and hurt yourself! The average coaching staff spends 2 hours each week preparing practice and game plans, the excellent coaching staff spends even more!
